This annual concert by the Southern Oregon Concert Band is one of the largest and most popular Veterans Day Celebrations in the area. This year's concert is enhanced with performances of the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers under the direction of Paul French and the Swing Kings, led by Harry Kannasto.
The concert pays special tribute to the Oregon National Guard, with many of its members now deployed overseas. The concert will open with the Swing Kings Big Band and chanteuse, Diane Hedges, performing song and dance favorites of the 40's and 50's. Followed by the Concert Band's homage to the Oregon National Guard in a stirring rendition of Aaron Copland's Fanfare For The Common Man as the flag is advanced by members of the Guard and local Cub Scout Pack 105. The Band and Repertory Singers will perform Carmen Dragon's arrangements of America The Beautiful, and The Battle Hymn Of The Republic. In addition the Band will perform Richard Rogers' South Pacific; Bob Lowden's Armed Forces medley of service anthems; John Phillip Sousa's Semper Fideles March; and more.
