The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West will present a free concert at Lithia Park in Ashland at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, August 20.
The concert will focus on a variety of styles, from traditional wind ensemble repertoire, patriotic music, marches and outstanding soloists accompanied by the band. The 45-piece band also features fine vocalists on songs sure to please every taste, selected from Broadway musicals, popular or traditional songs, and operatic arias.
This concert promises to be extra exciting, as the band will be conducted by its new commander, Major Keith Bland, fresh from the Air Force Band in Washington, DC, on his debut tour with the Band of the Golden West.
The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West is stationed at Travis Air Force Base, California. As the only remaining active duty Air Force band west of the Rockies, its geographic area of responsibility includes Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho and California. The Band of the Golden West has performed for gubernatorial inaugurations and presidential visits, with guest artists such as Toni Tennille, Marvin Stamm, Bob Hope, and the Boston Brass. They have performed at games of the Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants, Oakland Raiders, and the San Francisco 49ers. The band has been seen and heard by millions in performances throughout its touring region.
